Governance and independence

How TGHA reaches its decisions, who checks the work and how independence is protected.

How certification decisions are made

Every certification decision is taken by an independent certification committee. The committee is separate from the audit team, so the people who audit a site never decide on its certificate. The committee brings together technical and Shariah expertise. Members declare any conflict of interest and step out of any decision where one exists.

How auditors are qualified

TGHA's team includes auditors and inspectors with industry expertise across several sectors, supported by technical specialists in food safety, pharmaceuticals and quality management systems. Auditors are assessed for competence before they audit. They are trained in halal requirements and in the sector they audit, and their performance is monitored and reassessed regularly.

Protecting impartiality

TGHA does not design a client's Halal system and then certify it. Certification fees are not linked to the audit result. Staff and auditors declare any relationship that could affect their objectivity. An Impartiality Committee oversees these commitments and meets at least once a year. The full commitments are in the Impartiality Policy.

Shariah oversight

TGHA's halal requirements are reviewed by qualified Shariah advisers, and questions that arise during certification are referred to them.
