Certification
Prepare for your audit
A well-prepared application is faster to review. These are the documents a halal audit typically asks for. Your certification officer will confirm the exact list for your scope.
All applicants
- Your company licence and the details of every site in scope
- A list of the products to be certified
- A process flow chart for each product or product group
- A list of every ingredient, additive, processing aid and packaging material, with the supplier and the origin (animal, plant, mineral, synthetic or microbiological)
- Halal certificates or supplier declarations for animal-derived and other higher-risk materials
- Specification sheets or safety data sheets for lower-risk materials
- Cleaning and sanitation procedures, including what is used on shared equipment, and the cleaning records
- Your food safety or quality system documents, such as HACCP plans
- Staff training records
- Draft labels or artwork
Where you already run a halal management system
- Your halal policy and manual, and the name of the person responsible
- A traceability procedure and a procedure for handling non-conforming product
- Internal audit and management review records
Small producers do not need a full written system. As a minimum, TGHA asks for a short halal policy, an ingredient control procedure and traceability records.
Slaughterhouses
- Slaughter procedures and the slaughterer's competence records
- Records of the controls on stunning, where stunning is used, kept for the periods set in the UAE slaughter standard
- CCTV and device records kept for the periods set in the UAE slaughter standard
- Procedures for identifying, separating and disposing of non-halal carcasses
What to prepare for a quote (Certification Fees page)
To receive a costed proposal quickly, please have ready: the number and addresses of your sites, the number of production lines and shifts, your list of products and ingredients, your target export markets, and whether halal and non-halal products share any line or storage. Travel, the need for a translator, laboratory testing and the size of the workforce also affect the quote.
